Academic Identity Card

The academic or student ID is an official document that certifies that the holder is a university student. The card also serves as a "Pass", which specifies the period during which the student is entitled to discounted public transportation tickets. Students can apply for the academic ID electronically, via the website  http://academicid.minedu.gov.gr and enter the information required, throughout the year.

Students must use the password that they received following their registration in the first year of their studies. They also need to use their 7-digit General Registration Number, as well as their permanent address and not a temporary one, in order to be eligible for discounted public transportation tickets for travelling in Greece (road, rail, ferry) throughout the academic year, on presentation of their new academic ID.

The following categories are eligible for the Academic ID:

▪ Full-time students of the first cycle of studies who have not already earned a University degree. The Academic ID is valid for the number of years required to complete the studies according to the programme of studies, plus two (2) years.

▪ Part-time students of the first cycle of studies who have not already earned a University degree. The Academic ID is valid for twice as many years as the years required to complete the studies according to the programme of studies.

▪ Students who are citizens of member states of the European Union and third country nationals, who study at Greek HEIs as part of the European Union mobility programme "Erasmus" for the duration of their studies at a Greek University.

Termination of student status for any reason, automatically means that you no longer have the right to have the card. In this case, the card should be returned to the Department Secretariat. If the academic ID is lost or destroyed, the request for issuing another one, is only made by the Secretariat. The student must submit an official certification of loss issued by the Police Department. The cost of the new ID is borne by the student. The new identity card can be collected from the designated point selected by the student when filling in the application, at no extra cost.
